What in the Whoville are these things?
“It is fun to have fun. But you have to know how.”— the Cat in the Hat, in The Cat in the Hat (1957)
Who are we? We are musicians, engineers, architects, designers, teachers, actors, writers, natives, transplants, Spaniards, Frenchmen… you name it… living in New Orleans with a penchant for partying and ridiculousness. Inspired by the whimsical and impossible musical instruments imagined by Theodore Geisel in the Dr. Seuss books, we aim to be Whimsically Ridiculous and Frivolously Preposterous! We engineer and build our own carts, contraptions, instruments, and costumes. And every year we make thousands of handmade, one of a kind, throws to spread the whimsy during Mardi Gras!
Past Parade Participations & other Public Peculiarities
Krewe de Seuss was founded in 2013 by a small group of friends donning colorful costumes and creating a mobile music cart and crazy, yet functional, instruments to play in Krewedelusion, the parade that follows Krewe de Vieux, the first big parade of the Mardi Gras Season. Krewe de Seuss has paraded annually in Delusion, St. Ann’s, Box of Wine, made guest appearances in other parading krewes, and in 2017 joined the ranks of Muses and their Seuss inspired theme “Dr. Meuss on the Loose“.
Krewe de Seuss in the News
Since 2013, we have had some notable mentions in local and national media. The Huffington Post published photos of us in Delusion 2014 and Mardi Gras Day 2014. Krewe de Seuss was voted #16 of “50 Reasons We Love the South” in Garden and Gun Magazine 2015. Doug MacCash of nola.com noted Krewe de Seuss as the BEST LIVE BAND of Krewe de Vieux and Krewedelusion 2016. OffBeat Magazine also featured photos of us in 2016. And WDSU News ran a short piece on Krewe de Seuss in 2017 (see video below).
We have also made appearances for local events and fundraisers, such as the Dr. Seuss Gallery in the French Quarter, Louisiana Children’s Museum, and the International School of Louisiana.
